Shady Spring has had one of the most consistent high school cross country programs around.

Tigers post best-ever boys’ result and top-tier girls’ performance under Coach Lawson

That point was solidified on Saturday, when both the Tigers boys and girls teams finished third at the Class AAA state meet at Cabell Midland High School. It was both teams’ best finish under coach Eric Lawson, who started in 2018.

For the boys, it was their best-ever finish at the state level. The effort was paced by first-team all-state senior Ethan Dowdy, who finished fifth in a time of 16:30.7. Freshman Brady Rose earned second-team honors by placing 13th (17:04.8).
