San Antonio Spurs All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox delivered a historically efficient performance in Saturday’s 121-111 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, cementing his role as the franchise’s primary playmaker. Fox recorded 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, along with a team-high eight rebounds and a game-best seven assists in 35 minutes. This statistical line marks only the fifth time in franchise history that a Spurs player has achieved 20-plus points, eight-plus rebounds, and seven-plus assists while shooting 80% or higher from the floor.
Spurs guard joins elite historical company with efficient 80% shooting performance.
The rare feat places Fox in exclusive company alongside franchise legends and veterans. Only Jakob Poeltl (2022), Gene Banks (1983, 1985), and Billy Paultz (1978) have previously recorded such a combination of scoring, rebounding, and playmaking efficiency for the Spurs. Fox’s performance was pivotal in extending San Antonio’s winning streak to four games, improving their record to 4-2. It was also his first 20-point game of the season, highlighting his growing impact as the team’s offensive engine.
Victor Wembanyama, who led the Spurs with 43 points, praised Fox’s ability to control the pace and create for others. “We know to put the ball in his hands. He knows to go get the ball. And he’s been reacting defensively too. So, it’s a true point guard,” Wembanyama said. Through six games, Fox is averaging 16.5 points on 57.6% shooting, 4.8 rebounds, a team-high 7.0 assists, and 1.5 steals, demonstrating that his high-efficiency play is not an isolated incident but a consistent trend for the Spurs’ backcourt.
