Packers Lead NFL in Drops by Huge Margin After 8 Games

The Green Bay Packers have established a commanding and concerning lead in the NFL’s most unglamorous statistic, recording 23 dropped passes through the first eight games of the 2026 season. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF) data, this total is nearly double that of the next closest team, the Tennessee Titans, who have dropped 13 passes. The disparity highlights a significant breakdown in ball security for the Packers, who have already dropped more of quarterback Jordan Love’s passes this season than they did during the entirety of the 2025 campaign, where the total stood at 20.

Green Bay’s receiving corps struggles as Jordan Love’s drop rate spikes to an alarming 10.7%

The issue is not merely a byproduct of high volume, as Love leads the league in dropped pass percentage at 10.7%, a stark contrast to the 6.0% rate recorded last season. Matthew Golden has emerged as the primary culprit, accumulating an NFL-high nine drops, including two during the 27-19 “Thursday Night Football” victory over the Carolina Panthers. Golden’s struggles were particularly visible on the offense’s first drive and in the end zone, though he partially redeemed himself with a touchdown catch immediately following his second drop. No other player in the league has more than five drops, underscoring the severity of the problem within Green Bay’s receiving corps.

As the league approaches the midway point of the 2026 season, the Packers face an urgent need to correct this inefficiency. Key contributors to the drop total include Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson, and Josh Jacobs, indicating the issue is widespread rather than isolated to a single position. With Love throwing at a high rate to keep the offense moving, every drop represents a wasted opportunity that could easily swing momentum in tight contests. Unless Green Bay can tighten up its hands and improve focus, this statistical anomaly may continue to plague their drive efficiency for the remainder of the year.
