Golden State Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase delivered an unforgettable performance on Saturday, guiding her team to a 68-63 victory over the Atlanta Dream to secure the organization’s first-ever championship. The emotional weight of the milestone was palpable as Nakase addressed the crowd on national television, dropping an F-bomb while looking directly at the fans. The Golden State head coach’s unfiltered celebration cements her legacy in WNBA history.
The unscripted energy continued seamlessly into the media room, where Nakase entered while polishing off a beer brought from the locker room. Demonstrating a unique rapport with the press corps, she immediately sought out reporter Marisa Ingemi by name, using an elongated “Marisaaaaaaa” to command attention. The casual yet powerful demeanor underscored the celebratory atmosphere, with Nakase jokingly noting that Finals MVP Gabby Williams, seated to her left, “needs alcohol.” This candid interaction provided a stark contrast to the typical formalities of post-game interviews, showcasing the genuine joy and relief following a grueling playoff run.
Nakase’s postgame remarks have already sparked widespread discussion, blending humor with a profound message for those who have felt underrated or misunderstood in the sport. By prioritizing authenticity over protocol, the coach cemented her status as a fan favorite and a leader who connects deeply with her players and supporters. The championship win not only marks a historic achievement for the Valkyries franchise but also highlights Nakase’s ability to create a culture of resilience and celebration, proving that her self-deprecating claim of not knowing what she is doing is far from the truth.
