JR Motorsports confirmed on October 20 that Ross Chastain will return to the team for select NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races during the 2027 season. The 33-year-old driver will once again pilot the No. 9 Chevrolet, cementing a partnership that began in 2025. While the organization has not released a specific schedule, officials confirmed Chastain will make multiple starts, allowing him to continue his successful campaign with the team.
Chastain extends winning streak with No. 9 Chevrolet for 2027 season
Chastain’s decision to return follows a highly productive 2026 season where he competed in five races for JR Motorsports. His most significant achievement came in May with a rain-shortened victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway, marking his first series win since 2019. Beyond the win, Chastain demonstrated consistent speed by securing pole position at Dover Motor Speedway and recording top-five finishes at both Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Iowa Speedway.
The 2027 arrangement will see Chastain share the No. 9 Chevrolet with fellow NASCAR Cup Series competitor Shane van Gisbergen. The New Zealand native also had a standout 2026 campaign, capturing victories at Circuit of the Americas and Sonoma Raceway. Together, Chastain and van Gisbergen combined for three victories in eight starts this season, establishing the No. 9 car as a formidable contender in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
