Oregon wide receiver Messiah Hampton was arrested and booked on Friday following an alleged high-speed chase in which he successfully eluded police, according to reports from OregonLive’s Ryan Clarke. The true freshman now faces two felony charges for attempting to elude police and one misdemeanor charge for reckless driving. Hampton was released from custody in Springfield, Oregon, on Friday, marking a significant legal development for the Ducks’ receiving corps.

Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis

The incident occurred on October 18, a night that saw multiple Oregon players involved in traffic violations. That same evening, fellow wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII), while tight end Jamari Johnson was cited for speeding. Springfield Police pursued two vehicles that evaded them during the incident; one was later found abandoned near the location where Stewart was arrested. Authorities have since identified Hampton as the driver of one of those fleeing vehicles, though they are still actively seeking the driver of the second car.

Springfield Police Deputy Chief George Crolly confirmed the identification on Friday evening, stating, “Mr. Hampton has been identified as the driver of one of the vehicles. We are still working to identify the driver of the other vehicle.” While Hampton faces serious felony charges, neither Stewart nor Johnson are considered suspects in the eluding police case. This development adds to a turbulent week for the Oregon football program, raising questions about off-field conduct and potential disciplinary actions from the university.
