Inter and AC Milan have officially launched the construction blueprint for their new shared home, marking a definitive end to the era of the historic San Siro. The joint announcement confirms the venue will be rebranded as the Generali Stadium, following a massive €650 million ($725 million) naming rights agreement with the Italian insurance giant. This strategic partnership ensures the financial viability of the project while preserving the architectural legacy of the original arena, which will remain operational until the new structure is fully completed.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The new 71,500-seat facility, designed by Foster + Partners and MANICA, aims to redefine the live fan experience with a bold architectural vision. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2028, with the stadium targeted for completion by the 2031-2032 season. This timeline is strategically aligned to host matches for UEFA Euro 2032, which Italy and Türkiye will co-host. By delaying the demolition of the current San Siro until the new venue is ready, the clubs allow fans one final chapter in the iconic 1926-built stadium before the transition.
This project represents a significant shift in Italian football infrastructure, prioritizing modern amenities and capacity while maintaining the intense atmosphere that has defined Milan’s derbies for decades. The collaboration between Lord Norman Foster and David Manica signals a commitment to world-class design standards. As the two rivals move forward with this unified vision, the Generali Stadium is set to become a landmark venue, blending historical reverence with cutting-edge technology to serve as a global hub for football.
