Mir Cleared For Sepang Return With Honda HRC

Joan Mir has officially received the medical clearance to return to MotoGP action at the Malaysian Grand Prix, bringing an end to a four-race absence that followed his retirement from the San Marino round. The 2020 world champion missed the Red Bull Ring, Motegi, Mandalika, and Phillip Island events due to a lingering illness initially described by Honda as “altered parameters” in his blood work. MotoGP chief medical officer Dr. Angel Charte previously noted the condition caused “a variety of symptoms impacting his energy and performance for several months,” but Mir’s medical team has now confirmed he is fit to race.

2020 Champion Ends Four-Race Absence To Reconnect With Team Before Ducati Switch

“I think it’s the correct decision to return at such a familiar track,” Mir stated, highlighting the positive history he shares with the Sepang circuit. The 2020 champion emphasized that the primary objective for the weekend is to “get back on the bike, reconnect with the team and check my feeling.” This return is particularly significant as Mir has only four remaining outings in Honda HRC colors before his scheduled departure for the BK8 Gresini Racing Ducati team, making this his final opportunity to prove his fitness and form with his current manufacturer.

The Sepang round marks a critical juncture for both Mir and Honda as they prepare for the latter stages of the season. Mir last rode the RC213V on September 13, and his return provides a crucial data point for his transition to Ducati next year. Additionally, teammate Luca Marini is expected to rejoin the lineup, subject to a final medical check, ensuring Honda HRC fields a full complement of riders for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
