Bengal enters Monday’s Elite Group C Ranji Trophy fixture at the KCA ground in Thiruvananthapuram with momentum on their side, seeking a third consecutive victory to maintain their grip on the top of the table. The table-toppers, currently sitting on 12 points, arrive fresh from wins over Delhi and Services, but they face a stern test against a resurgent Kerala side. Kerala, who secured an innings victory over Odisha in their previous outing, will look to capitalize on home advantage to halt Bengal’s winning streak and close the gap in the standings.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The pitch at KCA is expected to offer early assistance to pacers, a factor that could dictate the tactical approach for both sides. Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla is likely to prioritize a pace-heavy attack, with Mohammed Shami returning to take the new ball after sitting out the last match. Shami will be supported by his brother Mohammed Kaif and Suraj Singh Jaiswal, creating a formidable frontline that contrasts with the spin-friendly conditions Bengal relied on in their last match. The toss is projected to be a critical element, as the team that bowls first may gain a significant advantage on this surface.
Despite their strong bowling prospects, Bengal must address their batting inconsistency, particularly after failing to post a competitive total against Services. Shukla will demand improved contributions from key batters like Sudip Chatterjee and opener Ankur Pal to ensure the team can defend a total or chase one effectively. For Kerala, the challenge lies in containing Bengal’s explosive pace attack while setting a competitive score. This high-stakes encounter promises to be a pivotal moment in the group stage, with both teams carrying significant momentum into the clash.
