Adam Fantilli delivered the decisive blow just 59 seconds into overtime, scoring on a 4-on-3 power play to secure a 2-1 victory for the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night. The goal, assisted by Kent Johnson from the right circle, marked a critical momentum shift, extending Columbus’s undefeated record in games decided beyond regulation to 3-0 while handing Vegas its third consecutive loss.
Columbus snaps 22-game power-play drought while Vegas falls to third straight defeat
The win was particularly significant for Columbus’s special teams, as it snapped a frustrating 0-for-22 power-play drought that had persisted since the season opener. Denton Mateychuk also contributed to the offensive effort with a backhander that gave the Blue Jackets the lead with 8:09 remaining in the first period. Although Tomas Hertl pulled Vegas even with 2:47 left in the opening frame, Columbus maintained composure to force the extra period.
Cam Talbot anchored the Columbus defense, stopping 26 shots to earn the win, while Carter Hart faced 18 shots for the Golden Knights. The result improves Columbus’s recent form, as the Blue Jackets have won two of their last six games. For Vegas, the defeat highlights ongoing struggles in close contests, leaving them to regroup after a challenging stretch on the road.
