FC Cincinnati’s Evander silenced critics and ended a frustrating seven-match goalless streak with a spectacular long-range effort during the visit to Audi Field. Facing a struggling DC United side, the Brazilian midfielder delivered a masterclass in finishing, unleashing a dipping, unstoppable shot in the 35th minute to break the deadlock. The strike, a hallmark of his elite outside-the-box ability, showcased the precise technique that has defined his career and provided a vital spark for Pat Noonan’s squad in a tight contest.
Brazilian star ends seven-match silence with a stunning long-range strike against DC United.
This goal marks Evander’s first since August 22 against Seattle, snapping a drought that threatened to derail his momentum in the 2026 campaign. Despite FC Cincinnati falling below their usual standards this season and facing a late fight for playoff qualification, Evander remains a statistical anomaly in Major League Soccer. He is one of only eight players in the league to reach double figures in both goals and assists, currently sitting at 14 of each, a testament to his all-around dominance on the pitch.
The significance of this performance extends beyond the immediate result, as it re-ignites the conversation around Evander’s candidacy for the league’s MVP award. While the Orange and Blue may be a shadow of their recent selves, their potential playoff run hinges heavily on continued heroics from their talisman. By breaking his scoring duck with such a high-quality strike, Evander has not only secured a spot in the Goal of the Week conversation but also reaffirmed his status as the engine driving Cincinnati’s aspirations.
