Petr Yan enters UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi with the bantamweight championship on the line, but the narrative has shifted from pure wrestling dominance to a celebration of his elite striking. In a strategic move to hype the trilogy finale against Merab Dvalishvili, the UFC released a three-hour video titled “UFC’s Greatest Boxer” on its official YouTube channel. This extensive tribute compiles Yan’s most impactful moments against division legends like Jose Aldo, Urijah Faber, and Cory Sandhagen, signaling that the promotion views his boxing as a primary weapon in the upcoming showdown.
Key Match Highlights & Tactical Analysis
The rivalry context makes this spotlight particularly intriguing. Dvalishvili won their first meeting in March 2023 via decision, leveraging relentless pressure and wrestling. However, Yan reclaimed the title at UFC 323 in December 2025 by neutralizing the Georgian’s grappling game and securing a lopsided decision victory. By highlighting Yan’s ability to use a high guard to parry incoming shots while maintaining steady forward movement, the UFC is framing the upcoming fight as a test of Yan’s striking resilience against Dvalishvili’s aggressive style.
As fight week concludes, the stakes are clear: this is the decisive chapter in a 1-1 series. While Dvalishvili brings elite takedown defense and pressure, Yan’s reputation as a top-tier boxer adds a new dimension to the analysis. The promotion’s decision to brand Yan as the “Greatest Boxer” in UFC history suggests they expect a high-volume striking exchange, where Yan’s technical precision and defensive acumen will be the deciding factors in retaining his belt.
